Angry at the Supermarket

I haven’t written a blog post in a while; I guess I haven’t felt this angry for a while.

Today I spotted a new spread in Waitrose and instantly felt a lump in my throat, and infuriated. Time and time again I have been told they have no shelf space, they are looking for trend-led brands - products that support a healthier future and what customers want - the movement away from added sugar especially - to see a product like this spread in which the first and thus most prominent ingredient is cane sugar - makes my eyes water. The contradiction!

Time and time again; I must have seen all the launches of nut butters and spreads over the last ten years, and Nut Blend/ myself has never been given a chance. So much for promoting brands that innovate and excite and literally add no type of any sugar or sweetener.

It makes me so sad; I don’t see it as a reflection on me and me not working hard enough - I see it as a reflection on the food industry and conglomerate companies. We have so much further to go. Say one thing, do another. Please customers and public media, really please themselves to retain margins and avoid risk (I assume).

And yet they hold the cards - they hold the power of distribution - they I want to follow fucking through with what they say they and customers want because of the latter; after ten years I wish my luck would come through for them to realise Nut Blend even exists at all.

I don’t like not being seen, like I'm invisible; working alone is isolating and it’s hard to change my perspective on my own.

Power Balance
